Can you be deeply grateful for your life while still desiring more?
by Tiffany Patterson
For far too long, we’ve been fed the idea that gratitude and ambition can’t coexist—that wanting more somehow means we’re ungrateful for what we have. That if we dare to reach for expansion, we’re betraying the blessings already in our hands. But that’s a lie. A deeply conditioned, suffocating lie designed to keep people—especially women—playing small, staying quiet, and settling for “just enough.”
True gratitude isn’t about shrinking yourself to prove you’re thankful. It’s not about convincing yourself that wanting more is selfish, greedy, or unspiritual. Gratitude is the fuel, not the finish line. It’s the unwavering acknowledgment of how far you’ve come, paired with the fire that keeps you moving forward.
So let’s shatter the outdated belief that you have to choose between contentment and ambition. You are allowed to stand in full appreciation for your life while unapologetically craving expansion. You can hold both. In fact, you must hold both if you are committed to walking in your highest purpose.
In this post, we’re diving deep into why gratitude and hunger for more are not opposing forces but powerful allies. You’ll learn how to break free from the guilt of wanting more, how to honor your ambition as part of your divine calling, and how to align gratitude and growth in a way that fuels your purpose-driven journey.
It’s time to rewrite the script. You don’t have to choose between loving what is and pursuing what’s next. You were built for both. Now, let’s talk about how to make them work together.
Gratitude isn’t just about feeling good—it’s about shifting your entire energetic frequency. When you start truly acknowledging the abundance already present in your life, you move from a mindset of scarcity to one of expansion. And here’s the truth: you cannot attract more when you’re obsessed with what’s missing.
Gratitude is what calibrates you to receive. It’s what aligns you with blessings instead of blockages. When you stop chasing what you don’t have and start appreciating what you do, your energy shifts. You become a magnet for more because you’re no longer operating from a place of lack—you’re standing in the vibration of abundance. This doesn’t mean you stop striving for more. It means you’re striving from a place of power, not desperation.
Most people are so focused on the next goal, the next breakthrough, the next level that they forget to honor how far they’ve already come. But gratitude keeps you grounded. It keeps you humble. It keeps you present. And presence is where the real power is.
Gratitude isn’t about settling—it’s about integrating every lesson, every win, and every blessing into your foundation. It’s what allows you to grow without losing sight of who you are. Take a moment to check in with yourself:
📖 Journaling Prompt: List five things you are grateful for right now and how they have shaped your journey. What lessons, experiences, or blessings have already transformed you?
When you stop and recognize your abundance, you stop operating from a place of I need more and start stepping into I am ready for more. That small shift? It changes everything.
"Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." – 1 Thessalonians 5:18
This scripture isn’t about blind gratitude—it’s about resilience. It’s about trusting that every season, every chapter, and every moment is shaping you for what’s next. Gratitude isn’t just a mindset. It’s a spiritual practice that fuels faith, deepens resilience, and prepares you to receive what’s waiting for you on the other side of this moment.
So before we dive into the hunger for more, take a breath. Ground yourself in gratitude. Recognize your current abundance. Because when you do, you’re not just preparing for more—you’re proving that you’re already living in it.
Somewhere along the way, ambition got a bad reputation—especially for women. We were taught that wanting more meant we were greedy, ungrateful, or too much. That if we truly appreciated what we had, we wouldn’t desire anything beyond it. But that’s a lie.
The drive to evolve, expand, and elevate? That’s not selfish—that’s divine. That hunger inside you? It’s not a flaw—it’s a calling.
You were not placed on this earth to just exist. You were not meant to settle for just enough. The dreams placed in your heart were put there for a reason—not just for you, but for the impact you are meant to have on the world.
Being grateful for what you have doesn’t mean you stop reaching for more. Gratitude is your foundation, but hunger is your fuel. The two are not opposites—they are partners.
Think of an athlete. They can celebrate today’s victory, but that doesn’t stop them from training for the next. Their gratitude for their current success doesn’t kill their ambition—it strengthens it. They honor where they are while relentlessly pursuing where they’re meant to go.
You get to do the same. You can stand firmly in appreciation while stretching toward the next level. You can love your life while wanting to expand it. You can be at peace and still be in motion.
"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you." – Matthew 7:7
God never told you to sit back and accept just enough. He told you to ask, seek, and knock—to want, to desire, to reach. Expansion isn’t just allowed—it’s commanded.
Your hunger for more? That’s not greed. That’s your spirit waking up to its potential.
So, what are you asking for? What are you seeking? Where are you knocking? Because the door? It’s waiting for you to step up and open it.
Wanting more is one thing—owning it, aligning with it, and actively stepping into it is another. Gratitude keeps you grounded, hunger keeps you moving, but how you channel these energies will determine the life you create. It’s not about wishing—it’s about owning, aligning, and staying open to the abundance already making its way to you.
Here’s how:
Step 1: Own Your Desires Without Guilt
Let’s get one thing straight: you don’t have to apologize for wanting more. Not now, not ever.
Whether it’s financial abundance, a deeper faith, stronger relationships, or a healthier body—you are allowed to want it. You are allowed to pursue it. You are allowed to step fully into the vision God placed on your heart.
Stop shrinking. Stop explaining. Stop worrying about whether your desires are too much for the people around you. Your dreams were never meant to fit inside someone else’s comfort zone.
Affirmation: “I am worthy of more, and I pursue it unapologetically.”
Say it. Mean it. Live it.
Step 2: Align Your Actions with Growth
Gratitude is the energy of receiving. Hunger is the energy of action. You need both.
Being grateful for what you have doesn’t mean you sit back and wait for more to arrive. It means you honor what you’ve been given by taking intentional action to grow. You plant the seeds. You nurture them. You show up and do the work.
This is where you stop hoping and start aligning. Growth is a choice. So choose it.
Set growth goals for every area of your life:
✔ Financial – What financial goals am I setting this year?
✔ Spiritual – How can I deepen my faith and trust in God?
✔ Emotional – What practices will support my healing and inner peace?
✔ Personal – What version of me do I want to become? What actions will get me there?
You don’t wait for expansion. You create the space for it.
Step 3: Stay Open to Abundance
When you ask for more, you also have to believe you are worthy of receiving it.
You are co-creating with God. Your desires are not random; they are divine. But if you’re constantly second-guessing, doubting, or waiting for the perfect moment to move forward, you are blocking your own blessings.
Stay open. Stay ready. The opportunities, the connections, the breakthroughs—they are already in motion. Your job? Trust.
📖 Journaling Prompt: What is one area of my life where I want more? How can I pursue it while still honoring my current blessings?
When you approach your desires with trust instead of fear, you step into the flow of divine abundance. You move with confidence. You expand without hesitation. You become the version of yourself who is already living in the “more” you’ve been asking for.
So the real question is—are you ready to receive it?
For too long, we’ve been told we have to choose—gratitude or ambition, contentment or desire, faith or action. But the truth? You are meant to hold both.
You are allowed to be deeply grateful for the life you have while unapologetically craving expansion. You are allowed to love where you are while knowing you were built for more. You are allowed to stand in faith while taking bold, aligned action toward the life you desire. Gratitude and hunger are not enemies—they are the fuel for your next level.
Embrace the hunger. Let it ignite you. Expansion isn’t greed—it’s growth. The drive inside of you isn’t selfish—it’s sacred. The more you step into your fullness, the more you can serve, impact, and uplift those around you. Your desire for more is not just personal—it’s purposeful.
And if you ever doubt that, remember this:
"I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." – John 10:10
You were not meant for a life of just enough. You were made for overflow. For abundance. For expansion.
So go after it—boldly, unapologetically, and in full trust that the life you are creating is one that honors both your gratitude and your hunger.
This is your permission slip. Take it. Run with it. Step into the "AND."
